mutantfilm is an artist run production company founded by artist and filmmaker Pete Gomes in 1997.

In 2010, "PD" or "PrEditor" is current media slang for a combined Producer-Director-Editor.

PD's are individual or small crews working with minimal but high quality equipment producing film and television broadcast standard video and all types of cross platform work on full HD.

Recent video works include commissions from: Performa 09, Beaconsfield Gallery, Cornershop, English Touring Opera, Arts Council England and Channel Four

mutantfilm is flexible and expands and adapts for each project, customising for each specific film with additional equipment from our high quality base of:

Sony EX1 High Defintion Camera, Mac laptop, Shot gun mics, Radio mics and Digital sound recorders and full HD Final Cut Pro edit suite.

Some jobs require more cameras and more people, others might need a more experimental approach and more time. Sometimes, people want some sort of film, but don't know exactly what it is. Sometimes people know what needs to be filmed but have no idea how to do it. Each new video work is custom designed and directed to suit the specific individual needs of the work.

The approach at mutantfilm is distinct from more formal production outfits as I am a working and practicing artist and film maker.

The aim is to work along side other creative people who need moving images for all forms of documentation and presentation and who need a distinct approach that is sensitive to their subjects, artists and audiences.

As an artist, I have collaborated with many film makers, choreographers, opera directors, musicians, sound artists, composers, architects, media artists, painters, across the world, and have directed film and video work, commissioned by a wide range of arts organisations: Arts Council England, British Council, English Touring Opera, South Bank Centre, Thames Festival, Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, Performa 09, European Union, The London Institute, Laban Centre, Trinity College of Music, Southwark Council and others.

My open starting point allows for a complete freedom and exploration of visual possibilities for each film. The visual style will be distinct for each project and sensitive to the specific needs of the works and projects; ranging from formal a documentary with interviews to an impressionistic poetic film or a combination of the two.

mutantfilm aims to apply creative ideas and produce film and video for other creative people.

Current work includes: John Wynne, Dominique Gonzalez Foester and PERFORMA.
